This area is to the north of the district. The most northerly point of Ryedale is above the Red Lion at Blakey Ridge. The North Yorks Moors can be traversed on two good roads, one out of Pickering and the other from Helmsley. These two roads are connected by small, minor roads and a drive or walk along them will reward you with many interesting and beautiful views of the region. The moor is bleak in winter and magnificent in summer. You will enjoy a trip over the moor in good weather, but do not attempt it when the snow starts to fall.
