The
Training Bands are made up of the Beginner, Learner, Junior and
Community Band and total over 80 musicians. Ranging in age from
4 - 70+ and from total beginner to accomplished performers, the
bands are designed to give anyone who wishes to learn a brass instrument,
regardless of age or ability, the opportunity to do so.
The
training sections are led by Sarah Woodward the Kirkbymoorside Town
Brass Band Deputy Bandmaster along with Jeanette Kendall assisted
by Ben Smailes.
Kirkbymoorside
Town Brass Band is one of the oldest Brass Bands in the Country,
celebrating their bi-centenary in 2015. Whilst the senior
band represents the town and county at the highest level at competitions
throughout the UK, they know that for the survival of the band and
indeed for the survival of brass bands nationally, tuition and teaching
people to play is imperative.
The
concert was outstanding with pieces ranging from traditional such
as the Brass Band March Death or Glory from Brassed Off, to Disney
such as the Bare Necessities from the Jungle Book to really tricky
arrangements played by the Junior Band such as Ticket to Ride and
Bohemium Rhapsody by the Community Band. John Woodward Kirkbymoorside
Senior Band Master said:
"I
was once again blown away by the standard of our youngsters and
our community band. Some of these players started to play after
Christmas and here they are giving a concert to 170+ people. I am
so proud of what Sarah, Jeanette, Ben and all our helpers have achieved
with the bands. I know the future of brass banding in Kirkbymoorside
and beyond is safe with dedicated people like this leading the way.
As the town band we are delighted to play for town events such as
the 10K Fair, tractor run, Christmas Carolling and Armistice Parade,
but we are also delighted to give the town the real joy of making
music."
If
you missed this concert then the Senior Band will be performing
a night at the movies in aid of the Ryedale District Council Chairman's
Charities on Saturday 6th May. Further details can be found at www.kirkbyband.co.uk
though fancy dress is not guaranteed!
